JOIN US FOR HMI 2017 JULY 16-22!
AN INCREDIBLE WEEK OF MUSIC MAKING FOR HIGH SCHOOL AGED MUSICIANS

The Penn State summer music camp (The Honors Music Institute) is one of the most exciting of its kind for talented high school musicians. The Institute is an intensive, week long immersion in the art of music making for talented high school students. As one of the most exciting summer music camps of 2017, specific areas of study include Chamber Choir, Jazz Combo (NEW this year!), Piano and Wind Ensemble. Students entering 9th grade in the fall of 2017 (current 8th graders) through students who will graduate in the spring of 2017 (current seniors) are eligible to audition.

Accepted students will participate in masterclasses, private lessons, chamber music, student recitals and large ensembles. All institute participants will study with renowned School of Music faculty and acclaimed guest artists.

Students may submit audition materials for more than one area of study, but if accepted, will be placed in only ONE, based on the review of the audition videos. The audition videos/applications deadline has been extended to Monday June 5, 2017. Everyone is invited to audition/apply, with audition videos/applications from MALE SINGERS, BRASS AND PERCUSSION especially welcomed! You will be notified via email regarding your acceptance/non-acceptance to The Honors Music Institute by Wednesday, June 7, 2017. Please visit the "How to Apply" page (link found on left side of this page) for information regarding fees for Honors Music Institute participants and available partial scholarships.

All events will take place in the Penn State School of Music on the beautiful University Park campus. Students will be housed in the newly renovated, air conditioned North Halls located near the School of Music.

From 2016 participants:
-By far, HMI has taught me more technique and musicianship than any place else. HMI really helps talented musicians grow and see where they can improve.
-I really loved the campus, all the faculty and counselors, and meeting a bunch of friendly, talented, and passionate musicians. Overall, I was very impressed with the program at Penn State and I have learned so much!
-The faculty in the School of Music are truly world class. Everyone is willing to help and they are one of the leading reasons that Penn State is the school I want to attend.
-Probably the best music camp experience I've ever had.
-I learned more in the last week than I ever thought I would. I believe that I have already improved and I'm a better musician now than I was one week ago.
-There's no way to describe exactly what was felt, it was magical.
-This is an amazing experience. The institute offers many opportunities to study with some of the best professors in the US. The camp in its entirety has truly changed how I play for the better.
