Concurrent Major/Minor

1.   A student majoring in music may earn a minor in Music Performance in a different instrument than the major instrument, provided that the following conditions are met:

  • The dual major/minor must be approved in writing by the applied faculty area of the student's major instrument. The student must seek this approval with a written request to the applied instructor of the major instrument. For composition majors, approval comes from the composition teacher.
  • No course may be counted toward both the major and the minor. For the minor, all applied lessons, ensembles, electives, and 400-level courses must be distinct from those used to satisfy the requirements for the major.

2. A student majoring in music may earn a minor in Music Technology, provided that the following conditions are met:

  • The dual major/minor must be approved in writing by the applied faculty area of the student's major instrument. The student must seek this approval with a written request to the applied instructor of the major instrument. For composition majors, approval comes from the composition teacher.
  • INART 050 and INART 258A may be double-counted for the major and the minor; no other courses counted toward the minor may be used to satisfy degree requirements for the major. A minimum of fifteen credits must be devoted exclusively to the minor.

3. A student majoring in music may not earn a minor in Music Studies.
