2016 Penn State Single Reed Summit - Lyle Merriman Competition (Undergraduate Division)

Eligibility:

Open to college undergraduate clarinetists and saxophonists in their third (or more) year of study, for the 2015/16 academic year. 

To Apply:

1) Fill out on-line application (below) *remember to hit "submit button" at the bottom of the page by January 24, 2016
2) Email or mail a letter of recommendation from your clarinet/ saxophone instructor; by January 24, 2016
3) Email or mail a copy of your performance resume  by January 24, 2016

NOTE: Invited Finalists’ (and their accompanist’s) summit registration fee will be waived.


Awards:

First place winner will receive $500, and the runner-up will receive $100.

Final Round:

Competition Finalists will be invited to perform at the Single Reed Summit based on their performance experience and letter of recommendation.  Invitation will be made within one week of the January 24, 2016 dead line.  Invited performers will compete on Saturday, Feb. 13th at 10:00am for a panel of judges.  The first place winner will be invited to play on a guest recital Saturday, Feb. 13th in Esber Recital Hall at 6:30pm.  (Times for competition and recital subject to change-please consult Single Reed Summit Website for updates) 

Accompanists:

Finalists are welcome to bring their own accompanist or use a Penn State Single Reed Summit staff accompanist for a $25 fee.  (Contestants will receive one 20-minute rehearsal with the staff accompanist either on Feb. 12 or the morning of Feb. 13)


Repertoire:

It is recommended that students prepare a single movement of a sonata or concerto. Students will play a minimum of 10 minutes.
