Penn State Opera Theatre presents a concert version of George Frideric Handel’s Alcina (1735) in the intimate atmosphere of Esber Recital Hall. A pivotal work of the High Baroque period, Alcina features the magnificent music of Handel and a fairy tale story based on Ludovico Ariosto’s epic poem Orlando Furioso. Magic, sorceresses, knights, love, and despair—it’s opera! Performed in Italian, Alcina features graduate students from the School of Music vocal performance program accompanied by a small chamber orchestra.
