Andre Jamaal North

Saxophonist Andre Jamaal North, a second-year MM student and graduate teaching assistant, was named the winner of the "Young Artist Competition" at the Music Teachers National Association's Pennsylvania State Competition on October 28, 2012. Andre played a program including works by Jules Demersseman, Fernande Decruck, Christian Lauba, and Lars-Erik Larsson. The Young Artist competition was judged by Stacey Steele and Terry Steele, both faculty members at Slippery Rock University.

Andre is a saxophone student of Dr. David Stambler. Originally from Huger, SC, he plans to  apply for DMA programs in Saxophone Performance/Pedagogy as well as to apply for public school and university level teaching jobs upon completion of his degree. 

Andre advanced to the regional competition held in January, 2013 in Columbia, MD where he played the same program.  He received “honorable mention” in the Young Artist division.
