Dan C. Armstrong

Professor Dan C. Armstrong recently appeared as an invited performer and guest conductor for a special "Celebrate Marimba" festival and concert held at Kutztown University.  The event marked the 80th anniversary of the 100-piece International Marimba Symphony Orchestra's (IMSO) European tour and Carnegie Hall concert in 1935.  In addition to his conducting duties, Armstrong also served as co-principal bass marimbist, performing alongside such percussive luminaries as Bob Becker of Nexus and Percussive Arts Society Hall of Fame member Gordon Stout. There were 75 marimbas in and around the stage, and well over 100 marimbists (including members of the Penn State Percussion Studio), some of whom were performing on rare and special instruments that made the IMSO tour 80 years ago.kutztown marimba festival

Armstrong conducted the marimba orchestra in an arrangement of "The Pilgrim's Chorus" from Richard Wagner's opera, Tannhauser. The concert was broadcast on KUTV and livestreamed worldwide.
