When I received my scholarship offer in the mail, my decision was easy! I really needed the financial assistance in order to attend and, by then, Penn State was my first choice by far. I knew that if I wanted to be the best I could possibly be, I had to go to Penn State and learn from the best. I am so grateful to the School of Music for helping me further my education as a musician, and I hope that other young musicians looking for a premier education know that there is hope for finding financial assistance. The School of Music faculty members are nationally renowned, and they are all world-class musicians and educators. The professors are filled with passion, dedication, and excellence, and they are fantastic role models for their students. Together, they have made me the best musician I can possibly be. This is why I Am and We Are Penn State.

My Penn State music scholarship has allowed me to pursue studies in music education and achieve my goal of making the arts more approachable for the general public. The scholarship was even more important to me because I am an out-of-state student--it helped ease the financial burden enough that I could have a great education at Penn State rather than accepting offers from less expensive institutions. Being at Penn State, I have had the wonderful opportunity to perform outside of the school regularly with Penn State faculty as colleagues in local orchestras, including the Pennsylvania Centre Orchestra and the Altoona Symphony. These experiences have allowed me to develop my abilities and progress further in reaching my ultimate goals and aspirations. This is why I Am and We Are Penn State.

Although I considered other universities, Penn State was the only school through which I could afford studying abroad in Vienna, Austria. This important opportunity provided me with new perspectives in the field of music. Penn State has not only allowed me to succeed as a musician; it has instilled in me a strong sense of integrity, passion, and the pursuit of excellence. The School of Music has provided me with many performing opportunities and the chance to work with extremely talented and caring faculty members. I am very grateful for the scholarship that gave me the extra incentive I needed to attend Penn State, and that ultimately changed the course of my academic future. This is why I Am and We Are Penn State.

In my senior year of high school, I thought choosing a college would be a difficult process. As it turned out, Penn State was an easy choice for me. However, I faced a steep financial hurdle when weighing my options. As an out-of-state student, the financial responsibilities were daunting. Fortunately, I was honored with a series of scholarships to ease that monetary burden, and that assistance was critical in my ability to attend Penn State. Ever since setting foot on campus, I'm happy to say that have had both the resources and support to grow as a student and person. I have had the honor of performing regularly with both student colleagues and faculty in State College, the U.S., and in Europe. I also had the amazing opportunity to expand my perspective and to find musical inspiration while studying in Rome, Italy during my junior year. In short, Penn State has changed my life. I will be forever grateful for the guidance and experiences that this school and faculty have given me. I cannot imagine being anywhere else. This is why I Am and We Are Penn State.
