Mark Ballora, a devoted and dynamic professor of music technology in the Penn State School of Music, affiliate faculty in the School of Theatre, and newly appointed director of the Arts & Design Research Incubator, unexpectedly passed on Thursday, July 18, 2019. He was 57 years old.

The Penn State Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of Gerardo Edelstein, presents its first performance of the academic year at Eisenhower Auditorium. It will feature Velvet Brown, the tuba and euphonium professor at Penn State, in the premier of Segal's Incantation for Tuba and Orchestra. Also presented is a performance of Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 in E minor, Op. 64.

Honoring Parents and Families Weekend, five Penn State choirs will combine to present a fast-paced concert in in the glorious acoustic of the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center. Mixed, men's, women's, and gospel choirs will present an array of compositions from the ­sixteenth century to the present day. Sean Hamilton is a percussionist, composer, improviser, and audio engineer currently based in western Colorado. His work primarily focuses on the convergence of avant-garde and experimental music, free improvisation, electroacoustic music, noise, sound art, and interdisciplinary projects.

Currently on tour, Hamilton will be presenting a recital of works for drum set and electronics at Penn State's Esber Rehearsal Hall.
