Auditionees should prepare three memorized songs from the standard classical vocal literature (contrasting styles, at least one in English and one in Italian). The material need not be excessively demanding, but should show a breadth of abilities (agility, legato, range, etc.) and complement the singer's current level of skill.

Please refer to the Guidelines for Voice Auditions for complete information regarding the audition process. A live audition is required. There is an option for submitting a prescreening audition video.

For directions about formally applying to Penn State, please visit Application Process. Once the application has been submitted, please schedule an audition by completing the online scheduling form. Auditions for high school seniors are limited to the dates listed.

Once scheduled, auditionees will be directed to a link for a Voice Student Background Form within the audition confirmation from the Undergraduate Music Admissions Office (234 Music Building I). Please complete and submit this form within 10 days. Applicants are also encouraged to submit formal performance resum├ęs.

Students wishing to pursue the performance minor in voice must wait until they are enrolled at Penn State before auditioning. These students, as well as current Penn State students who wish to audition for a change of major to music (with voice as the primary performance area), audition at regularly scheduled School of Music audition dates. Please complete the online scheduling form.  Note: The audition requirements for the minor and the change of major are the same as above.
