The Orpheus Singers, an auditioned chamber choir comprised of community members and Penn State students, is looking to recruit new members. Founded and conducted by faculty member Christopher Kiver, the 32-voice choir comes together for specific projects, and has performed with the Pennsylvania Centre Orchestra, at the Music at Penn’s Woods Festival, the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, and as part of Leonard Bernstein’s Mass, presented by Penn State in 2013.
In December, 2016, the Orpheus Singers will once again join forces with the Pennsylvania Centre Orchestra to perform Handel's Messiah in two performances on Sunday, December 11 in Schwab Auditorium and Wednesday, December 14 at Faith United Methodist Church in Bellefonte. The 7:30 p.m. performances will be conducted by Christopher Kiver and will feature Penn State alumna Lisa Rogali, soprano and Penn State voice faculty member Ted Christopher, bass.
Rehearsals will occur on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at University Baptist and Brethren Church:
- October 26
- November 2
- November 16
- November 30
- Dress rehearsal: Saturday, December 10; 10:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (Schwab Auditorium)
Current students and community members with previous choral experience and good music reading skills (soprano, tenor, bass) are welcome to apply for an audition by contacting Chris Kiver at firstname.lastname@example.org or 863-4400 by October 14.
