School Welcomes New Assistant Director of Athletic Bands

Corey Pompey

The Penn State School of Music is pleased to welcome Corey Pompey to its faculty as the Assistant Director of Athletic Bands. He will assist with the Marching Blue Band and athletics bands, teaches undergraduate conducting, conducts a concert band, and supervises student teachers.

Pompey previously served as an assistant instructor with University Bands at the University of Texas at Austin. He was involved in all creative and administrative aspects of the program, including work with the University of Texas Wind Ensemble and the Longhorn Band. He taught in the public schools of Alabama for seven years prior to moving to Texas.

He holds undergraduate and master’s degrees in music education from the University of Alabama, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in wind conducting from the University of Texas. His principal conducting teachers include Jerry F. Junkin, Kenneth Ozzello, and Gerald L. Welker.

Pompey’s professional affiliations include the College Band Directors National Association, Texas Music Educators Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
