The Penn State School of Music welcomes Steven Hankle as assistant professor of choral music and music education, effective Fall 2015. He will teach undergraduate choral conducting, choral music education classes, and conduct the Penn State University Choir. An active clinician, Hankle has worked with secondary school choirs throughout northern and central Florida.
An active member of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) and National Association of Music Educators (NAfME), Hankle has served as the Florida State University ACDA Chapter President, and presented his research at the Florida Music Education Association (FMEA) conference. His primary area of interest is developing choral music education in urban secondary public schools.
A native of Chicago, Hankle received both undergraduate and master degrees in music education and conducting from San Francisco State University and his Ph.D. in music education/choral conducting from Florida State University. Prior to his appointment at Penn State, Hankle successfully developed a new choral program at Mission High School in San Francisco, California.
