A pre-screening process is required before an invitation to audition is offered.
Auditionees for the M.M. in Voice Performance, the M.M. in Pedagogy and Performance (with track in voice), and the Professional Performance Certificate in voice should prepare at least five memorized art songs or arias representing various languages and style periods. At least one of the selections must be in English and at least one of the selections must be an opera or oratorio aria sung in the original language.
A repertoire list should be furnished before or at the time of the audition. Click here for additional information about the audition process.
Recordings may be submitted electronically in one of two ways. You may choose to go to www.youtube.com and upload your video following the instructions provided. Under the video settings, choose "unlisted", and email your link to Dr. Ted Christopher at firstname.lastname@example.org. You may choose instead to provide a link to a website by which the faculty may access a video file directly. Email the URL to the same email address.
If this is not possible, you may submit a DVD (repertoire requirements are the same as below) and send it to:
- Dr. Ted Christopher
- The Pennsylvania State University
- 114 Music Building I
- University Park, PA 16802-1901
Submissions are to be received by December 1 to be considered for an audition in January or February (or by November 15 to be considered for the December audition date).
After a review of all materials, the most qualified applicants will be invited to the University Park campus for an audition and interview. A live audition is required. Applicants who wish to be considered for graduate assistantships should schedule auditions/interviews as early as possible.
Once you have been invited to audition, please complete the online graduate voice audition scheduling form.
