Soprano Julia Wolcott (B.M. '13) was named as a finalist in the National Opera Association's "Caroline and Dominick Argento Vocal Competition" held in January at the National Opera Center in New York City. Julia was one of nine finalists participating in the Scholarship Division from over 200 applicants.
The competition was part of the annual convention of the National Opera Association, in conjunction with the National Association of Teachers of Singing Winter Workshop, and in cooperation with Opera America. Judges were Johanna Meier, Willie Anthony Waters, and Kathryn Proctor Duax.
She is the daughter of Arlene and Bryan Wolcott of State College, Pennsylvania. She is a voice student of Penn State faculty member Jennifer Trost.
Julia has also been selected to participate in the seven-week Artists Training Seminar of Castleton Festival (Castleton, Virginia) from June 1-July 20, 2014. At Castleton, she will work with renowned conductor Lorin Maazel, music director of the Munich Philharmonic.
