Annie Burridge ('00 B.M.-voice) has been named as general director of Austin Opera (TX), joining that organization after more than nine years with Opera Philadelphia. She began her new duties in Texas in November, 2016.
With degrees in vocal performance, opera, and nonprofit administration, Annie joined Opera Philadelphia in 2007 as associate director of development and institutional giving, then became director of development in 2009. She was named senior vice president of institutional advancement in 2012 and was promoted to managing director in January 2015. During her seven-year tenure as the company’s chief development officer, contributed income increased 76%. She also served as adjunct faculty at Drexel University, where she has taught Writing for the Arts and Fund Development for the Arts in the arts administration graduate program.
Before switching her focus to administration, Annie performed with numerous opera companies and orchestras, and was a young artist with Des Moines Metro Opera and Pensacola Opera. She holds a graduate certificate in nonprofit administration from the University of Pennsylvania; master’s degrees in voice performance and opera studies from the New England Conservatory. As a Penn State student, she earned her bachelor’s degree in voice performance with a minor in business administration.
