Celeste Belknap, a double major in violin performance (B.M.A.) and Russian, has been accepted to attend the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) Summer Russian Language Program, and will spend summer 2017 in St. Petersburg, Russia.
The daughter of Debbie Doyle Belknap and Bryant Belknap of Clarks Summit, PA, Celeste is a second-year violin student of James Lyon and a Schreyer Honors College student. She is the recipient of the Academic Excellence Scholarship, Esber Memorial Awards in Music Scholarship, a School of Music General Scholarship, and the Schumacher Honors Scholarship. Specific scholarship assistance to attend the summer program in St. Petersburg includes a Foreign Language Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship from the Federal Department of Education's Title VI grant to Penn State's Center for Global Studies, a Council on International Educational Exchange Scholarship, and the College of Arts and Architecture’s Alumni Study Abroad Scholarship.
As a School of Music student, Celeste is a member of the Philharmonic Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, and the jazz string quartet Stringin’. She is also involved in fundraising efforts for THON, and is a participant in an all-female organization titled Peers Helping Educate and Empower (PHREE).
Celeste is thankful for the scholarship assistance provided by Penn State and excited for the opportunity to expand her research investigations in St. Petersburg.
