Graduate voice student Corie Auger recently participated in a livestream with Grammy-award winning composer William Bolcom and mezzo-soprano Joan Morris. Produced by the Living Music Resource, the livestream included an interative interview with the general public and feedback to three specific singers (chosen from a national pool) who had previously submitted videos of themselves performing Bolcom compositions. Her video submission was a performance of the art song Amor.
Corie was thrilled to be selected for the opportunity and even more excited to receive the composer's comments. "Having feedback from the composer and his wife, who sings many of his works, was fantastic. I gained a brand-new perspective on the music: how he wanted it to be interpreted, the places where he felt the singer could take liberties, and the inspiration behind his compositions."
From Ortonville, Michigan, Corie is a graduate of Grand Valley State University. She hopes to pursue a career as an opera performer and university voice teacher after graduation. She is a voice student of Ted Christopher.
The Living Music Resource is an online video library on vocal subjects housed at the University of Mississippi.
