Gregory Hutchison ('02 B.S.) has received the 2013 Citation of Excellence Award (District 7) from the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA). He is the band director at Lower Dauphin Middle School in Hummelstown, Pennsylvania where he has been teaching for eleven years.
Kenneth Kulina, the Dean of Students at Lower Dauphin Middle School, wrote the following about Greg. "Mr. Hutchison has demonstrated to me consistently that he is an exceptional music educator and role model. He is a highly dedicated professional who exhibits great passion for music and has permeated a great deal of excitement for music in his students. Our middle school band numbers have increased dramatically since his arrival at our school... He is a person of high integrity who represents himself and the art of music with excellence."
At Lower Dauphin, Greg conducts the sixth-grade band, seventh-eighth grade band, a jazz band, and a marching indoor drumline. He also teaches a sixth-grade general music class and serves as assistant director for the Lower Dauphin High School marching band. Greg has served as a guest conductor for the Central Dauphin School District Elementary Honors Band and for the Adams County Junior High School Band festival, and has also led a "Learning-Focused-Schools" session and music reading session for PMEA's District 7 Annual In-Service Day. Most recently, he collaborated with colleagues in the Derry Township School District to create a summer band program, organized to help keep students playing over the summer and to link the communities together.
A former student of Mark Lusk, Greg continues to play trombone in various local performing ensembles, and he is grateful to work with wonderful people in a community that values music education!
