Jessica  Bieganski has won the 2014 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association’s Award for “Excellence in Service.” Sponsored by the Society for Music Teacher Education, the award is presented to graduating students who have demonstrated a direct and meaningful contribution throughout their time at the University, who portray effective leadership, and who are willing to give of their time, resources, and/or creative efforts for the betterment of music education. The award was presented to Jessica based on her service to the Pennsylvania Collegiate Music Educators Association.

Jessica will graduate with a in music education in spring 2014. An oboe student of Timothy Hurtz, she is currently completing her student teaching experience in the Hollidaysburg Area School District, working with middle school cooperating teacher Kris Laird and elementary general music cooperating teacher Mary Villani. At Hollidaysburg, she conducts the 7th grade band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band and teaches group lessons on all instruments. She also teaches 8th grade Accelerated Music and a drumming group for special needs students. At the elementary school, Jessica teaches general music classes to grades K-5, conducts the 5/6th grade chorus, and co-teaches string lessons

During her time on the University Park campus, she participated in Symphonic Band, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Philharmonic Orchestra, Double Reed Ensemble, and Percussion Ensemble II. She served as president of Penn State's chapter of the Pennsylvania Collegiate Music Educators Association in 2013 and was the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships. Jessica was also on the Dean's List for six semesters. In 2014, she served as the accompanist for the PMEA District 4 ChorusFest.

Jessica plans to pursue a teaching position in middle school band or elementary general music after graduation. She is the daughter of Paul and Fran Bieganski of Pottstown, PA.
