Joshua Laughner represented the College of Arts and Architecture as its student marshal at the Undergraduate Commencement ceremony occurring on Saturday, May 4 at at Eisenhower Auditorium. He selected Dr. Paul Barsom to accompany him as faculty marshal.
Joshua is the son of James and Lynn Laughner of Wadsworth, Ohio, and graduated with concurrent bachelor’s degrees in Music Composition and Chemistry. He was a Schreyer Honors College student, and holds memberships in Phi Kappa Lambda and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). He received numerous awards and recognitions, including an Evan Pugh Scholar Award, a Teas Scholarship and a 3M Summer Research Fellowship in the Department of Chemistry, and the 2012 College of Arts and Architecture Golumbic Scholarship for achievement in the performance category.
Joshua is a trumpet player, and was a winner of the Symphonic Wind Ensemble's 2012-13 Concerto Competition. He was also a 2013 recipient of the School of Music's Creative Achievement Award. His future plans include graduate studies in chemistry.
