Congratulations to junior Luke Nosal for being named a recipient of the 2017 Award For Creative Achievement. Presented by the College of Arts and Architecture, these annual awards recognize students who exemplify the objectives of the college with respect to enhancement of the arts. Consideration is given to students (preferably final year) who have proven themselves over an extended period of time. Luke’s previous awards include the Gall Trustee Scholarship, the Nancy and Harold O’Connor Scholarship, and the Hockenberry and Parker Scholarship.

The son of John Nosal of Bangor, PA, Luke is a horn major in the studio of professor Lisa Bontrager. He is a member of the Philharmonic Orchestra and Symphonic Wind Ensemble, the assistant director of the Horn Ensemble, and the conductor of the Valley Brass Band. In summer 2016, he served as principal horn for the College Light Opera Company (CLOC) in Falmouth, MA. In addition to his musical involvement, Luke also serves as vice president of Penn State’s LGBTQA Roundtable.

An accomplished composer and arranger, Luke has been commissioned to arrange a work for the Altoona Symphony Orchestra, and has also been commissioned to write two horn compositions for Lisa Bontrager. Upon graduation, he plans to pursue a graduate degree in orchestral conducting.
