The National Association of Teachers of Singing has fostered the formation of student chapters in order to advance knowledge about the Association and the professions of teaching and singing. A Student NATS (SNATS) Chapter is an organization of students that can meet, hold events and discussions, participate, practice, and learn more about voice teaching as a profession. A SNATS Chapter was established at Penn State in the fall of 2007. Since SNATS members are not members of NATS, there are no dues to pay to National, though most chapters establish their own local dues to pay for programs. Our chapter currently charges a $10 membership fee annually. SNATS members enjoy many benefits, one of which is a reduced student rate on subscriptions to Journal of Singing. Students may pay $30 (normal price is $55) to receive this informative scholarly journal that contains articles on all aspects of singing, voice science, voice pedagogy, literature, and diction. Please contact the SNATS Advisor, Norman Spivey, for further information.
