British flautist Paul Edmund-Davies, principal flute with the English National Opera, presents a public recital. The recital will be preceded by a masterclass at 9:00 a.m. for Penn State flute students. He is assisted by pianist Joanne Yang. Paul Edmund-Davies is hosted by Naomi Seidman. The public is welcome.

Paul Edmund-Davies established his international reputation as flautist and soloist in the twenty years that he served as principal flute of the London Symphony Orchestra. Conductors with whom he has performed concerti include Leonard Bernstein, Mstislav Paul Edmund-DaviesRostropovich, Pierre Boulez, and Kent Nagano. He has also played in chamber music ensembles with André Previn. In 2009, he took the position of principal flute with the Philharmonia Orchestra,and he was appointed principal flute of the English National Opera in 2011.

For the last ten years, Paul has toured extensively; giving recitals, classes, and performing concerti in America, Europe, Canada, Australia, the Middle East, and the Far East. He has also co-written and performed on cross-over projects with the principal percussionist of the London Symphony Orchestra, Neil Percy. Their first recording, Ball and Biscuit, was released in 1999 on the Black Box label. Another recording, Cuvée Acoustique, was released in 2006.

Edmund-Davies has edited several books titled The Flautist's Collection, and he has completed editing and recording the complete flute sonatas of Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Friderich Handel (consisting of score, parts, and CD with complete performance and play-along version), the Telemann fantasias, two unaccompanied partitas by Johann Sebastian Bach and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, and the canonic sonatas by Telemann. He is currently working on editions of the complete flute works of the composer Giuseppe Rabboni. He published his book The 28 Day Warm up Book for all Flautists- eventually! in 2007, and it is now in its second edition.

Edmund-Davies has performed on more than 50 film sound tracks, including Star Wars (1 and 2), Aliens, Braveheart, Harry Potter, Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and Honey I Shrunk the Kids. When not playing the flute, he is a director of the Champagne Guild, a company devoted to introducing previously unavailable champagnes to the United Kingdom.
