The Penn State Blue Band has added Dr. Eric Bush to its staff as an assistant director, according to a release from the band. Bush, who recently completed his doctorate degree at the University of Iowa and who served as a graduate assistant for the Hawkeye Marching Band, will join Dr. Carter Biggers and several graduate assistants under director Greg Drane.
Drane is entering his first season as director of the Blue Band, taking over for Richard Bundy, who retired in June 2015.
As an assistant director, Bush will help run the Blue Band and the other athletic bands, according to the release. The other bands are the Fall Athletic Band, which plays at women’s volleyball games and men’s and women’s basketball games during the fall semester, and the Pride of the Lions Pep Band, which plays at men’s and women’s basketball games and men’s hockey games in the spring semester. In addition, he will teach courses in jazz studies and conducting in the School of Music.
“We are excited to have Dr. Eric Bush with our program,” Drane said in a statement. “Bush will work with our team designing halftime shows and is a welcomed addition to the Blue Band family.”
