The School of Music is pleased to announce the appointment of heldentenor Graham Sanders as visiting artist-in-residence, beginning spring 2015. Sanders, a native of Chichester, England, received diplomas from the London College of Music, and studied with distinguished faculty at the University of Cincinnati (William McGraw) and Indiana University (James King).
His career was launched in 1990 when the Lauritz Melchior Heldentenor Society recognized his talent and awarded him a major scholarship to study in Munich. He has performed at the Oper der Stadt Bonn, Dresden Semper Opera, Hungarian State Opera House, Chicago Lyric Opera, Scottish Opera, and with opera companies in Bremen, Braunschweig, Lübeck, Kiel, and Flensburg (Germany), Istanbul (Turkey), Salvador (Brazil), Rotterdam (Netherlands), and Göteborg (Sweden).
Sanders lives in State College with his wife and daughter. His appointment as artist-in-residence is made possible thanks to the generosity of Judith and Jeffrey Carpenter of Moorestown, New Jersey. The Carpenter’s two children are students or graduates of the Penn State School of Music, and both have studied with Sanders.
